A Study on the Effects of Role within and outside the Family on the Self-Acceptance and Other-Acceptance in Elderly

Abstract
This study seeks to find out the relationship between role performance, self-acceptance and other-acceptance. In order to do so, 329 males and female of 65 years of age or older from Daegu area were selected and surveyed. To test the validity of the survey questions, 30 random recipients were chosen for a preliminary survey. After restructuring the survey questions, the main survey took place. The data was collected between January 1, 2012 and February 10, 2012. SPSS 19.0 was used for frequency analysis and multiple regression analysis. Role within family showed differences in self-acceptance associated with parent``s role, spouse``s role, relative``s role. Role outside family showed differences in self-acceptance associated with occupational role, in other-acceptance associated with occupational role, friends`` role. In conclusion, the various programs and practical application to improve coping strategies could be utilized to prepare an aging society. This would contribute to the rise in the level of self-acceptance and other-acceptance aging.
